Two Friends Passionate about African Art
The story of Galerie la Chapelle begins with two childhood friends united by a shared passion: African art. Collectors for over 30 years, they decided to sell a part of their treasures to support development projects in Africa. Guided by an expert in ethnic art and restorer of ancient pieces, they have assembled a unique collection of objects from all over West Africa.
Birth of a GalleryIn 2023, their passion took shape with the creation of the art company SPIRIT LAND OF AFRICA based in Dakar. They handed over their collection to it and opened the doors of an art gallery reflecting their passion.
A year later, in 2024, Galerie la Chapelle opened its doors in France, in Bassoues in the Gers region. Housed in a former chapel deconsecrated in 1789, it offers a unique setting to discover hundreds of masks, statues and works of art from West Africa.
An Exhibition and Sales SpaceOver nearly 200 m², Galerie la Chapelle invites you on an immersive journey into the heart of African art. More than just a gallery, it aims to be a space for sharing and discovery, where everyone can appreciate the richness and diversity of West African cultures.
More than a Gallery, a MissionGalerie la Chapelle is committed to an ethical and solidarity approach. Part of the proceeds from the sales is donated to development projects in Africa, thus helping to support local communities and preserve African cultural heritage.
